Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere Wilshere: became a key man for the Gunners last term.

Wilshere closes on return

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is optimistic that midfielder Jack Wilshere will be back on the pitch within the next four weeks.

The England international is yet to make an appearance this campaign after injuring his ankle in the pre-season match against the New York Red Bulls.

The 19-year-old has already suffered a setback on his return after enduring a stress fracture during his initial recovery in September.

"Jack can be back within a month if all goes well. The recovery of his latest problems looks very good. The latest scan was very positive,“ said Wenger.

Wilshere’s teammates face a long trip to Sunderland this weekend in the fifth round of the FA Cup as they look to win their first trophy in seven years.

The Londoners are 11/8 with Bet365 to advance to the quarter-finals while Martin O’Neill’s men are 21/10 with Boylesports.

Blue Square offer the best odds on Wenger’s side lifting the trophy in May; they go 6/1.
