Live: Stevenage v Tottenham
Sunday 14:00 (ITV1)
Andy Watkins
Stevenage upset Newcastle in the FA Cup last season and the high-flying League One outfit have another scalp on the agenda when Tottenham arrive for their fifth round clash on Sunday. Spurs have already reigned once in Hertfordshire by knocking out Watford but haven’t had things all their own way on the road in recent weeks.
Match betting
- Stevenage are the form side in League One after their 1-0 win at play-off rivals Sheffield Wednesday means Boro have lost just once in their last 20 games. The Hertfordshire outfit have already dumped out higher opposition en route to reaching the last 16, disposing of Championship side Reading in the third round.
- Tottenham’s 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle last time out strengthened their grip on third place in the Premier League but Spurs have struggled on the road lately, winning just one of their last five away league games. Harry Redknapp’s side edged past Watford at Vicarage Road to make the fifth round.
- Stevenage are competing at this stage for the first time in their history, surpassing even last season’s exploits which included upsetting Premier League opposition in the form of Newcastle. Leicester were the last side from outside the top flight to beat Tottenham in the FA Cup six seasons ago.
Tottenham to win at 1/3
Over/under
- Five of Stevenage’s last eight home games have finished under 1.5 goals following last Saturday’s triumph at Hillsborough. Three of their four FA Cup ties have also gone the same way.
- Three of Tottenham’s previous four league outings have finished over 3.5 goals but four of their last five on the road in league and cup have produced under 2.5 goals, including the previous couple which have ended under 1.5 goals.
Under 1.5 goals at 10/3
Correct score
- Nine of Stevenage’s last 12 wins have all been by a single-goal margin, prevailing 1-0 in three of their four FA Cup ties this season. They are yet to concede in this year’s competition and have leaked fewer than two goals in 19 of their previous 20 matches in league and cup.
- Tottenham’s stalemate at Liverpool in their last away outing was the first time they have failed to net in the league since the opening day, scoring exactly two goals in exactly half. Spurs have kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league and are also yet to concede in the cup.
Stevenage 0-1 Tottenham correct score at 13/2
Double result
- In all three of their 1-0 FA Cup wins Stevenage have scored the decisive goal before half-time and have only been behind at the break once in their previous 16 league outings. Boro have lost the second half once from 13 League One games at Broadhall Way.
- Tottenham have only conceded in the first-half in one of their last 11 games but their 1-0 lead at the break en route to victory at Watford in the previous round was only the second time in their previous seven games they have led away from home at half-time. Seven of the last nine goals Spurs have scored have come in the second half, including three of their four goals in the FA Cup.
Draw/Tottenham double result at 10/3
Goalscorers
- Chris Beardsley is Stevenage’s leading marksman with nine including a couple in the FA Cup. Full-back Scott Laird is next best with seven after netting in successive league games while fellow defenders Mark Roberts and Laurie Wilson have five apiece. They are joined alongside Darius Charles, who hit the winner at Reading in the third round.
- Jermain Defoe leads the way for the visitors with 12 goals in all competitions, one ahead of Gareth Bale who has netted three goals in his last four away league games. Louis Saha opened his account in a Tottenham shirt last time out and is available again having not appeared in this season's competition so far.
Gareth Bale to score the first goal at 5/1
Key men
- Chris Day has been a vital ingredient in Stevenage's surge up the table and heads into Sunday's clash on the back of successive clean sheets. The much-travelled goalkeeper began his career at White Hart Lane and having managed shutouts in each of their four FA Cup ties so far, Boro's number one will be intent on keeping his 100 per cent record intact against his boyhood club.
- Louis Saha's double against Newcastle means the Frenchman is up and running after his deadline-day move and Harry Redknapp is likely to start with the former Everton front man again. With competition for position rife in attack, Saha will be desperate to stake his claim for a permanent starting place with another productive display in front of goal.
Best bet:
