Charlton striker Bradley Wright-Phillips has signed a new one-year contract with the League One leaders.

The former Manchester City and Southampton frontman’s new deal will keep him at the Valley until the summer of 2013.

Wright-Phillips, who was manager Chris Powell’s first signing as manager, has netted 14 goals this season and is delighted to be extending his stay in South London.

“It’s good news because I am very happy at the club,” Wright-Phillips told Charlton’s official website.

“This is one of the happiest times I’ve had in football. It feels like I have been at the club for much longer than a year.”

Wright-Phillips remains the club’s leading scorer despite failing to net since mid-November.

The 26-year-old is behind Huddersfield’s in-demand Jordan Rhodes in the race for League One’s top scorer but is 8/1 with Ladbrokes to end the season in pole position.

Meanwhile, Charlton’s third successive win on Saturday at the expense of promotion rivals Sheffield United preserved their unbeaten home record.

Victory also stretched their lead at the summit to seven points and the Addicks remain 8/13 favourites in the League One title race.
