Bristol City will be without midfielder Marvin Elliott for the rest of the season after he suffered an Achilles injury.

The 27-year-old snapped a tendon in training on Tuesday and he has been advised to rest for four months, meaning he'll miss City's relegation battle.

"I am absolutely devastated by what has happened to Marvin and this is a major blow for him and the team," said manager Derek McInnes.

"Marvin wanted to play a major part in keeping us up between now and the end of the season but will now have to sit it out. The injury came out of the blue. He was just running when he pulled up suddenly in a lot of pain."

Elliott has featured in 28 of the Robins' 32 Championship outings, that has seen them lie six points above the relegation zone having played an extra game.
