Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has signed a three-and-a-half year contract extension to remain with the Welsh outift.

The Scot has guided the Bluebirds to Sunday's Carling Cup final at Wembley, as well as fifth place in the Championship table, just six points behind the automatic promotion places.

"It's with great pride that I have signed a new and long-term contract," Mackay said. "My positive thoughts of Cardiff, as a city, a club and its supporters have only been enhanced further since coming to south Wales last summer.

"We are sure that all Cardiff supporters and partners will join us in celebrating this news as we push to make history on two fronts this season."

The 40-year-old left Watford and was appointed as Dave Jones' successor in June 2011, and was initially on a one-year rolling contract, before agreeing this new extension.

Mackay's side travel to London to face Premier League Liverpool in the League Cup final on Sunday, and Bet365 chalk up the Championship side at 9/2 to lift the trophy, and 8/1 to do so after 90 minutes.
